Daisy’s Story: Building a Future Through Catering Training
My name is Atimango Dorcus Daisy. I am 20 years old and come from Alango village in Kitgum. I am a graduate of vocational training in catering from Pader Girls Academy. Before joining Pader Girls Academy, I worked in a restaurant after dropping out of school because my father couldn’t afford higher-level fees. During my time at the restaurant, I struggled to progress because I could only do basic tasks like washing dishes, mopping, and occasionally serving customers, as I had no formal training in cookery or bakery.
I wanted to study catering because I admired how the restaurant owner supported her family, and I had already developed a strong interest in catering.
I was fortunate to be accepted into Pader Girls Academy’s catering school. During my training, I gained skills in preparing both local and Western dishes, as well as baking donuts, cakes, cookies, and more. After completing my course, CCF (Now Te-Kworo Foundation) provided me with a start-up kit that allowed me to open my own restaurant in the Bus Park area of Kitgum.
After just two weeks, my restaurant was already making a daily profit. Now, I am able to support myself and soon hope to extend that support to my family as the business grows. I am incredibly grateful for the assistance that has changed my life.
