General Questions
-
Te-Kworo Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering girls, women, and communities in northern Uganda through education, maternal healthcare, and community support.
-
We work across northern Uganda, with key programs in Pader, Kitgum, Nwoya, and Agago districts.
-
Our mission is to bring hope and a better future to vulnerable women and girls in northern Uganda by providing access to quality education and life-saving maternal healthcare.
-
Northern Uganda has endured decades of conflict and instability, which have left communities struggling to rebuild. The region faces high levels of poverty, limited access to education, and inadequate maternal and healthcare services. By focusing our efforts here, we aim to create lasting change by empowering vulnerable women and girls through education, healthcare, and community development.
-
Maternal Health: Uganda’s maternal mortality rate is 368 deaths per 100,000 live births, and neonatal mortality stands at 27 deaths per 1,000 live births (UNICEF, 2023). Our clinic currently serves over 300,000 people for maternal and child health, and with the upcoming hospital, we will be able to serve over 800,000.
Education: Only 53% of girls aged 6-12 complete the required seven years of primary education (Source: Northwestern Sites). Merely 22.5% of girls in Uganda enroll in secondary education (Source: Northwestern Sites). Approximately 2,021,000 girls, representing 24% of all school-aged girls, are out of school (Source: Malala Report Cards). About 50% of girls aged 15-24 are illiterate (Source: 60 Millions de Filles). To address these issues, we are providing scholarships and education support to hundreds of girls per year, helping them pursue brighter futures.
-
Without these programs, vulnerable women and girls face significant barriers to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities. This perpetuates cycles of poverty, early marriage, and preventable deaths from inadequate maternal care. Failing to act means losing the chance to empower a generation that could drive progress and uplift their communities. Every contribution helps ensure these programs continue to provide hope and a better future.
